Huge congratulations to Kavneer Brar, Samina Panjwani, and Ryan Kim for being award summer funding!

Kavneer Brar was awarded with BrainsCAN’s prestigious Diversity in Neuroscience Summer Internship Program. She will be working closely with TCNLab/MouseTRAP members Julie Dumont, Daniel Palmer, Oren Princz-Lebel, and Harleen Rai on her project entitled “Using touchscreen operant chambers to disentangle goal-directed and habitual behaviours.”
She is really excited to expand her knowledge and practical skills working with mice and touchscreen operant chambers!
Samina Panjwani is no stranger to the TCNLab. She began in Summer 2022 as a Diversity in Neuroscience awardee. She continued as a One Health Undergraduate Thesis student, and has been accepted to continue on her studies as a graduate student in the fall! However, this summer we are celebrating her for getting an NSERC USRA!!! She will be looking at the molecular characterization of striatal cholinergic interneurons in mice under the guidance of TCNLab/MouseTRAP members Oren Princz-Lebel and Miguel Skirzewski. She is looking forward learning more about the diverse populations of neurons within the striatum, and specifically learning new techniques including using the vibratome!

We had the pleasure of hosting Ryan Kim in the lab as Physiology & Pharmacology Undergraduate Thesis student. He enjoyed working with TCNLab members Ashlyn Hersey and Paul Sheppard so much, that he was hoping to secure funding for a summer project on the development of a cognitive judgment bias task using touchscreen operant chambers. We are so happy that he was awarded with DUROP Award!
Ryan says, ““I’m looking forward to seeing our mice progress through their training and how they respond to ambiguous stimuli on our modified cognitive judgement bias task.” And guess what? We are too!
Thank you to our funders for providing young, enthusiastic, researchers an invaluable opportunity! Many of us in the TCNLab are in research today because of our undergraduate lab experiences!
