We are so proud to announce that our BrainsCAN postdoctoral fellow (co-supervised with the Menon Lab), Olamide Adebiyi, is starting her own lab as Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences (VBMS) at the University of Saskatchewan!
For those of you that aren’t aware, Olamide hails from Nigeria where she began her career as veterinarian. She observed many dogs in her clinic were presenting with motor impairments and she decided to do some post-mortem observations only to discover reduced myelin! This lead her down an academic path exploring demyelination caused by environmental factors (side note, mining releases pollutants into the environment which lead to demyelination in dogs and workers!), and diseases impacting myelin (such as multiple sclerosis). Obtaining a PhD from the University of Ibadan (Nigeria), she went on to work at Cornell University (USA) as a visiting Fullbright Fellow, and finally has come to join the TCN + Menon Labs here at Western University.
Although we are sad she will be soon leaving us, we can’t wait to see all the incredible work she will produce in her own lab at the University of Saskatchewan! All the best Olamide!
